Skills for Effective Engagement, Development and Supervision 2 (SEEDS2) – reflective practice recognising the needs of staff and people on probation

SEEDS2 champions reflective practice and is the approach being adopted throughout the Probation Service.   At its core is an emphasis on recognising the individual as well as the barriers to, and opportunities for, their development, whether that be a member of staff or a person in our care.

SEEDS2 is anticipated to impact organisational performance on multiple levels, including moving from a culture of blame to an open learning culture; increased staff well-being and retention; and reducing the risk of reoffending.  The latter is a fundamental component of the Probation Service’s work and even small but consistent improvements could have significant benefits for individuals and society.  These learning products also focus on emotional labour and staff wellbeing as well as being expanded to include senior managers and leaders.

“SEEDS2 harnesses strengthened relationships with individual needs, providing improved outcomes for both people on probation and employees.”

Sonia Flynn, Chief Probation Officer
