The best learning & development experience for employees

Building on the Probation Workforce Strategy we’re pleased to publish our Probation Learning Strategy (2022-2024) which focuses on the continuous improvement of the learning and development experience of Probation Service employees.

This document informs much of the work already taking place within our learning landscape and will drive forward a culture of learning, enabling staff to not only perform well in their current role but also to develop their careers.

The four strategic objectives are:

  • Place employees at the heart of learning, enabling meaningful learning experiences for all roles
  • Enable employees to prioritise the time and space for learning
  • Maximise use of technology to improve accessibility and quality of all learning
  • Work collaboratively, across HMPPS and with external partners to create learning experiences with impact.

Bringing the strategy to life

Work is already underway that reflects the strategy including:

  • Intranet ‘learning by roles’ pages detailing categorised learning requirements
  • Continuous professional development (CPD) framework provides a guide to the type of development activities employees should focus on to develop their role (this work links to the Competency Based Framework)
  • The development of high-quality learning products which utilise learner feedback to ensure they are impactful.

Read more about specific commitments under each objective in the strategy document or contact us at PWP-capability@justice.gov.uk.
