Prison OM to Community OM handover

If I manage resettlement cases I need to be aware of the expectations of the POM and COM handover. I will be briefed locally in November 2021 to December 2021 about how I will work with Pre-Release teams and POMs in prison to support access to Prison based services and ensure continuity where required into the community.

Prior to release, my Person in Prison (PIP) on Standard Determinate sentences with more than 10 months to serve, will receive a minimum of 1 in person supervision session in the last 3 months before their case is handed over to me. This requirement applies to all cases irrespective of tiering levels. I will need to be aware of the National Standards around contact levels with Person in prison(PiP) which include;

  • Prisoners who have more than 20 months left to serve from sentence are required to receive a minimum of 3 supervision sessions in the last 3 months of their handover date.
  • Prisoners who have less than 20 months left to serve from sentence are required to receive a minimum of 1 supervision session in the last 3 months of their handover date.
  • Prisoners who have less than 10 months left to serve will not be subject to a handover meeting as the responsibility sits with the COM.

I can read more about OMiC POM Responsible Cases and POM COM handover here.
