People Survey: Spotlight on Yorkshire and the Humber
The Yorkshire and the Humber region are working on Disability, Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination, Wellbeing and Mental Health as our People Survey priority areas.
Disability
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team are analysing available data to identify regional trends. We are deploying learning and development events, such as autism awareness training for staff to increase awareness. We have held a disability listening event which was well attended and from the feedback, we have established a Disability Inclusion Group to hear ideas, learn from lived experiences and drive positive improvements. We are improving recruitment and induction processes to be more inclusive of those who are neurodivergent.
Bullying, Harassment & Discrimination
We are focusing on culture, building a workforce where colleagues feel valued. Our regional leadership team are champions of specific aspects of diversity and are chairing forums where staff can influence decisions, for example our Race Inclusion Group, who have successfully made a case for all staff to attend anti-racism training, including identifying ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ to deliver. Senior leaders are engaging with all staff in monthly events and using feedback to drive change. We are encouraging cultural conversations and training facilitators in every business unit to hold ‘culture clubs’ as part of our ambition to improve cultural confidence. We have developed a dashboard to monitor staff feedback from exit interviews and surveys to support decision making.
Wellbeing and Mental Health
To create a healthy working environment, we have made the Mental Health at Work Commitment and will work to promote this framework. We have increased our Mental Health Ally resource to ensure staff can access support if needed. We are embedding the new Workplace Adjustment Service to support staff with reasonable adjustment needs. We are placing wellbeing at the core of our induction experience. Our Health and Wellbeing Team have developed a new roadshow presentation to be delivered by wellbeing champions. We have raised the profile of healthy finances and held workshops, for example focussing on stress and anxiety, burnout.
