Resettlement Leaflet and Guidance Booklet – ‘Prepare for your Future’

Between July and September, to assist me in providing immediate pre-release support and meet the resettlement needs of my Person in Prison, I will have access to the new the resettlement pack, which includes a leaflet for people in prison and a resettlement guidance booklet for me. If I am in an ‘early adopter’ region of Wales, South Central, West Midlands, North East and Yorkshire and the Humber, I will have had access to these since January 2022.

Developed with people with lived experience the leaflet and guidance booklet focus on promoting self-learning, engagement in purposeful activity and support me in delivering pre-release activity. They are designed to be a national resource and I should use them to supplement rather than replace existing regional or local products.

The Booklet is primarily my resource tool and can be used during interviews with my person in prison. It includes advice and tips to support my colleagues and I when planning for their release. The chapters are based round the 7 Pathways, includes tips and advice to support me when working with people in prison or on probation and, contact details for national support services following release.

To better understand the purpose of the resettlement leaflet and resettlement guidance booklet, who they are designed for and when to use them, I have access to a guidance document. I will aim to ensure that every person who leaves prison will have access to a leaflet, with the booklet used as a resource tool by my team. I will ensure that leaflets are made available in prison libraries and receptions, and that staff in both areas understand the purpose of the leaflets. The information provided in the leaflet & guidance booklet represents some of the support services available to everyone in the community, however if the person I am working with is subject to Probation Supervision, I should, after discussing their needs with their Probation Worker, have a referral made to a specific probation funded service in their area who can provide more individual support.

I can access a digital or hard copy depending on the person I am supporting, and the pack is available to convicted and unconvicted people in prison. I can find out how to order printed copies here Resettlement guidance – Welcome Hub (hmppsintranet.org.uk)
