Your induction to the Probation Service

We are aware that we have a range of colleagues who will be joining our new Probation Service. Some of you are existing NPS staff, others will be transferring in from CRCs, parent organisations and supply chain organisations and will have previously worked in the Civil Service. For others, joining the Civil Service will be a completely new experience.

As well as the different groups of people coming together to form our new Probation Service, we are also conscious of everyone’s busy personal and work lives, and we want to be sensitive and considerate of this. For all these reasons, a one-size fits all ‘induction’ won’t be appropriate.

Learning and development

The four layers of ‘induction’ available to you:

There are four layers of induction available to you and you can choose which parts interest you most and browse through them. There are a small number of mandatory elements, these will be called out below.

An induction checklist is now available to help you understand what actions you need to complete before and after day 1.

Your Probation Service Induction

The Welcome Hub is the main part of your Probation Service Induction. It contains information about what you need to do as well as information that you need to know about the transfer and our new organisation. It will be continually updated ahead of your transition. You want might to look at these sections but there are many other pages that you can browse through:

There are some parts of your Probation Service induction that we are unable to host on the Welcome Hub (due to it being in the public domain). This information will be available to you once you have access to your MOJ workplace technology and can access MoJ’s internal intranets and other guidance channels. This includes:

    • Links to policies and guidance
    • Learning to use SOP (our single operating platform) that we use to complete HR, procurement, finance and payroll transactions and is where you view your payslips
    • Induction materials for line managers

These materials will be made available to you in a checklist (including links to relevant pages on the MOJ intranet in April / May).

We hope  these induction layers provide you with the information you need to help you to feel supported, welcomed and prepared to join the new Probation Service.
