“Welcome to the North West Welcome Hub pages. There are many of you in the NW Region who will know me but for those who don’t I am Andrea Bennett, and I am the Regional Probation Director for this Region. I should say from the outset that I believe we are in the best region (of course I would say that!) not least because this is where I was born and raised and spent most of my working life.
To let you know a little about me, I was born on the Fylde Coast and stayed here until going to Keele University. After graduating my first job was as a PSO in what was then called Inner London Probation Service where I eked out a meagre wage by doing extra shifts in the Beckenham Probation and Bail Hostel. My patch covered New Cross and Lewisham so my first introduction to work with supervised individuals (or clients as we called them back then) was somewhat in at the deep end.
I qualified as a Probation Officer in 1989 from Hull University where my MA thesis was on Women in Prison, and the area of women who offend is still something that I have an abiding interest now. It was on the same course at Hull that I met my husband who, like me, has worked in probation and criminal justice ever since.

A varied career in Greater Manchester, Lancashire, London and then in Petty France has seen me doing numerous roles across all grades and locations. However, before you run away with the idea that I am very experienced and know everything there is to know about our work, I should quickly add that one of the things that has retained my enthusiasm for the job over the last 30 something years is that there is always something new to learn, and I love that about the job.
The Hub resource is, I believe, a fantastic place to find learning materials, understand policies and procedures, locate offices and find colleagues. I hope you find the content useful, informative and make good use of it. We are keen to hear about your experience of using it and your suggestions for what else could be included.
Looking ahead we will continue to add to the content and I hope that you will, like me, see the Hub pages as a good anchor point and positive information source. Our aim is to broaden our strategic alliances with existing partners, create and develop new partnerships and improve the quality and effectiveness of service delivery for those individuals that we supervise. The Hub pages are one of the tools that will help us do that, deliver a quality service we are all proud of and make it abundantly clear that the NW Region is indeed the best!”
