South West

Welcome from Angela Cossins
South West Regional Probation Director

“Welcome to South West Probation.

Bringing Probation together as one new organisation presents us with an exciting opportunity to make a real and positive difference to the communities we serve, the victims we support and people under our supervision.

I am proud of the way we have worked collaboratively across the South West over the last hugely challenging 12 months; to maintain services during the pandemic and to develop our new unified Regional Probation structures. Hearing from so many of you at our joint staff events has been a really positive experience with your concentration on wanting to make a real and tangible difference to the lives of others.

Each and every one of you will be critical to the success of the new organisation. Our diversity, range of skills and experience will all be needed to maximise the benefits of this change. I want to foster a culture of inclusion, innovation and continuous improvement in the South West, putting people at the heart of our service. This includes our staff, the individuals under our supervision and the victims we support. We will listen to the needs of the diverse communities we serve, and I have made a firm commitment to involve victims of crime and people with lived experience of custody and probation supervision throughout service design, delivery and strategic decision making.

Day One on 26th June is just the start of this exciting journey. There are many challenges ahead and our plans will not be easily achieved. However, I am confident that by working together we will create a South West Probation Service that we are all proud to work for.

I very much look forward to working with you all.”

Staff engagement activities

  • The Welcome Hub is a one-stop-shop for both National and Regional information that gives colleagues what they need to know and what they need to do ahead of their transition to the NPS in June. It has been designed by the National Probation Service (NPS) with input from CRCs. It is there to complement, and not replace, current local CRC and NPS communication activities. The Hub will be regularly updated in the run up to June.
  • Joint Staff Events have been taking place since September 2020 and are scheduled to continue after Day one. These include All Staff events, Middle Manager events, and Joint Senior Leadership Meetings.
  • There are also events specifically designed and scheduled for staff who work across the region. Events have been facilitated by senior regional managers from both the CRC and NPS covering issues such as The South West Road Map, Joint Recovery work, People Updates, Learning and Development, Digital, Data and Technology (DDAT) and Estates.  Agendas for these meetings are under constant consideration as additional information becomes available.
