Welcome from Nic Davies
Wales Regional Probation Director

“Croeso / Welcome to the Probation Service in Wales!

As the Regional Probation Director for Wales I am very excited about the opportunities we have to look forward to as a result of the unification of our profession. In December 2019, Wales transferred all Offender Management functions into the then National Probation Service and following this we welcomed Interventions and Resettlement services into our new probation service in June 2021. This was a huge undertaking, and its success must be credited to all staff who embraced the changes and contributed to forming a new culture.  These changes provide an opportunity to deliver an even better service with improved outcomes for the people we work with.

We are passionate about the important work we do to support people on probation to address their offending-related needs and lead law abiding lifestyles. Our staff are at the heart of our organisation and we remain committed to supporting and developing you all. It is important that everyone feels welcomed and equipped to form part of our Service, as we work together to create an environment that will inspire, support and empower each of us to be the best we can be, to help deliver a quality probation service in Wales.

We have worked together through such unprecedented times in recovery and so I also just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for all you do and continue to do. I am extremely proud of our dedicated staff and very much look forward to continuing to work with you all as we implement the new Target Operating Model (TOM) and together deliver an excellent probation service in Wales.”

About our region

Our region covers a very diverse landscape, covering large urban populations and many rural and coastal communities.

We work within a unique setting, with oversight of probation and the prisons in Wales falling under the wider HMPPS in Wales directorate. This reflects the devolved landscape in Wales, which also sees us working very closely with our partners, including Welsh Government and the four Police and Crime Commissioners and Police Forces, to keep the public safe and deliver justice across Wales.
