Learning

Our philosophy to learning

The Probation Service values professional development ensuring staff have the knowledge of policy and processes, the ability to develop and refine skills, and understand the theory behind the work we all do.

Everyone’s learning needs are individual and will vary throughout their career. The responsibility for identifying and addressing learning needs sits with each of us and our line manager, to ensure it is an individualised process that takes account of feedback and confidence in our day to day work.

Work with your line manager to identify and address your learning needs and seek out relevant learning when it is needed.

Many opportunities

There are many learning opportunities in the Probation Service including ‘mandatory learning’ that all of us are required to complete and then ‘required’ learning that is specific to our roles.  These pages provide a one-stop-shop to help you find and undertake the learning relevant to you.

myLearning houses all courses, guidance videos and job aids.

If you have any questions about the learning you are required to do, please speak with your regional Probation Learning Lead
