Greater Manchester Regional Probation Director
“Welcome to the Greater Manchester region Probation Hub page.
This region was formed to support the unification of what was once the NPS and CRC teams in June 2021.
I have been fortunate enough to work in and across both the CRC and Probation Service and I have seen first-hand the excellence of delivery across the entire region, the differences across the two legacy organisations, but more importantly how much we already had in common. It fills me with confidence that as we continue to form the Greater Manchester Probation Service we are doing so from a position of strength and that is thanks to all of you, in every role, across the region.
As we continue to establish the Greater Manchester Probation Service, we will do so through embodying the principles set out in the HMPPS strategy:
- Enabling people to be their best
- Transforming through partnerships
- An open, learning culture
- Modernising our estates and technology
Probation in Greater Manchester will build on those principles through, for example, our unique justice devolution agreements with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, and by pursuing our own modernisation programme on the back of the unification process – improving our buildings, increasing our resourcing, and commissioning new services.
The unification of our existing organisations has provided us with so many opportunities to consolidate and build upon an already solid foundation of good practice and excellence, allowing us to realise our full potential as a single probation service. Adding the Greater Manchester devolution agreements to that potential and we have before us all a great opportunity to shape, influence and improve how we deliver success for our service users, our stakeholders, our communities, and for each other across Greater Manchester.

About our region
There are approximately 1,000 of us employed across this region.
Within the region there are 8 courts and 4 prisons: HMP Buckley Hall, HMP Forest Bank, HMP Hindley, and HMP Manchester.
The Greater Manchester Probation Service covers the same geographical area as both the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Greater Manchester Police.
We have a unique Justice Devolution Memorandum of Understanding between HMPPS and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
